The American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) is a nonprofit organization responsible for managing internet number resources such as IP addresses and autonomous system numbers in the United States, Canada, and 38 North Atlantic and Caribbean countries.
The challenge
With a community of more than 30,000 members, as well as a broad array of regional and global stakeholders, ARIN’s two-person training team is tasked with producing clear, concise educational content about its systems and services. As Training Program Manager, Beverly Hicks oversees the creation of all internal and external learning content for ARIN, with a heavy focus on five-minute or shorter micro-learning videos for the ARIN community. Before implementing WellSaid, her team relied on manual voice recording for every project, which required extensive coordination, editing, and rework.
“We were spending so much time recording, re-recording, and cleaning up audio that production was starting to bottleneck,” Hicks explained. “As a small team, we needed a faster, more flexible solution that didn’t compromise quality.”
ARIN’s content also presented unique challenges. Technical terminology like acronyms such as “R.I.R.” and “IPv6” made pronunciation consistency a constant concern. Each project required multiple takes and audio clean-up to ensure clarity.
In addition, as an organization responsible for critical internet infrastructure, ARIN must meet strict security and compliance standards before adopting any new software. Any new solution had to be not only practical but also safe, fiscally responsible, and regionally compliant.
“As a nonprofit, we want to make sure we’re being fiscally responsible with our choices. There is a huge climb for us whenever we bring on a new service. WellSaid passed with flying colors, proving that its value would be felt immediately.” Hicks explained.
The solution
Hicks discovered WellSaid during a Training Magazine Network webinar and was immediately drawn to the platform’s natural-sounding AI voices and intuitive design. With WellSaid, ARIN’s training team quickly found a solution that addressed several pain points:
- Speed: Scripts can be voiced and finalized within hours, not days.
- Quality: Clean, consistent audio without background noise or tonal inconsistency.
- Ease of use: Minimal learning curve, allowing immediate integration into existing workflows.
- Pronunciation support: The ability to save and reuse custom pronunciations ensures accuracy across projects.
- Security: WellSaid met ARIN’s rigorous data management and regional compliance standards.
- Manpower costs: No need to pull staff off of other responsibilities to record or rerecord audio or to contract with outside help for audio.
“The platform’s built-in pronunciation editor was a huge win for us,” said Hicks. “What really sold me is that there’s always someone at WellSaid willing to help me work through tricky pronunciations and technical terms, and it’s such a value-add.”
ARIN has since expanded its use of WellSaid beyond microlearning to include short explainer videos, eLearning courses, and event audio, such as announcer introductions for videos at its Public Policy and Members Meetings.
Hicks also praised WellSaid’s rebuilt studio for its enhanced realism and clarity. “The new studio has been a real improvement,” she said. “The sound is cleaner, smoother, and more natural.
The result
Switching to WellSaid has produced measurable gains in productivity, quality, and cost efficiency for ARIN. What once took days can now be completed in a matter of hours, and there’s no longer a need to divert staff from other projects to record audio. Additionally, updates can be made quickly when new information is available. Turnaround time to update videos has dropped from weeks to days.
“WellSaid has seamlessly integrated into our development process to save us time, money, and stress,” Hicks said. “And we recommend WellSaid to other organizations because we’ve gotten compliments on our clean audio.”
Conclusion
By adopting WellSaid, ARIN has transformed its training production by eliminating bottlenecks, improving audio quality, and enabling faster, more flexible content creation. With secure, natural-sounding AI voiceovers and reliable pronunciation control, the organization can deliver professional, accessible learning experiences to its community.
