The challenge
FlightSafety International engineers and manufactures flight training devices, visual systems and glass mirror displays, while also training pilots, mechanics, and crew for airline clients around the world. Internally, a separate five person L&D team is responsible for training FlightSafety's own 5,000+ employees – everything from regulatory and compliance modules to safety management systems, leadership development, and instructor certification.
Before finding WellSaid, voiceover narration came from FlightSafety employees who handled the recordings themselves. It worked until something needed to change. In a regulated training environment, that dependency was inconvenient and it slowed down the delivery of compliance and safety content to employees.
"Before, if we were in a lesson and we couldn't get that voice talent to come back and re-record that one section, we would have to get somebody else and re-record the entire lesson," said David Ferner, Lead Learning Consultant at FlightSafety International.
Every round of stakeholder feedback meant scheduling someone's time again, then hoping the new take matched the cadence of everything already recorded.
The solution
FlightSafety has been a WellSaid customer since the summer of 2020. Today, the team's workflow builds narration in from the start: courses are drafted with a placeholder voice track and a disclaimer that it's not final, then WellSaid narration goes in once the script is finalized, with captions generated automatically after – ready-made for accessibility and compliance requirements without extra production steps.
Aviation content brings its own difficulty – industry acronyms and terminology are, in David's words, "any AI voice's white whale." He's seen that improve materially with WellSaid's precise pronunciation tools and newer voice AI models, which matters in a training environment where accuracy in safety and compliance content isn't optional.
When comparing WellSaid to other AI voice solutions on the market, David is direct about why the team stays with WellSaid rather than switch to cheaper, "good enough" options: "We get what we pay for. We came back to WellSaid – it sounds cheesy, but it's true. It's the best out there," he shared.
The result
The clearest result for FlightSafety is efficiency and turnaround time. A re-record that used to take anywhere from 24 hours to a couple of weeks – depending on when the internal voice talent had time – now takes a matter of hours. It can also be handled by anyone on the Learning and Development team, rather than routed through one or two people who happen to have a voice for it. Even in a worst-case scenario, a full re-record of an entire course, the turnaround is about two hours from start to finish.
Smaller edits are even faster: a single line or paragraph rewrite is now a matter of minutes rather than a scheduling problem. "It literally goes from days, weeks to a matter of hours," said David.
That speed has held up under real scrutiny. FlightSafety formally evaluated other vendors at a prior renewal and came back to WellSaid anyway and has renewed again since.
For the 5,000+ employees who consume this training, the change is a more natural-sounding voice and corrections that land almost immediately instead of waiting on a re-record.
Why this matters for regulated training teams
FlightSafety's L&D team is maintaining safety management, regulatory compliance, and instructor certification content that has to stay accurate as requirements and policies change. That combination is a challenge for many AI voice or text-to-speech solutions: it's no longer enough to just be fast, AI voice solutions must get technical and regulatory terminology right, consistently, across a library that spans from minutes to hours per course.
For training managers, instructional designers, and training program managers in safety-critical or regulated environments, with small teams, and without dedicated production or voice-recording expertise: WellSaid can help you keep your compliance training library current – cutting a multi-week re-record cycle down to hours – without adding headcount or routing every edit through a single specialist.
